Directions to the Higashi-Hiroshima Observatory

Accesses to the observatory

• A. From Saijo interchange (Expressway) by car
  • (1) Turn right at the first signal after exiting the Saijo interchange and continue south onto National Route 375 for about 4 km.
  • (2) After passing the area where Fuji Grand and Nitori are, there is a signal where you should turn left to get on National Route 2 (elevated road) to continue east for about 2 km.
  • (3) Turn right at the "Shimominaga" intersection and continue for about 500 meters.
  • (4) Make a right turn at the end of the road, and then turn left at the first intersection. There is a sign for the Higashi-Hiroshima Observatory at this intersection.
  • (5) Go along the road between two golf courses, and continue with a slight right, following the sign for the Higashi-Hiroshima Observatory.
  • (6) Drive up the slope where the Saijo Grand Hotel is on the right for about 2 km.
  • (7) Follow the sign for the Higashi-Hiroshima Observatory and turn left to go up the slope.
  • (8) The observatory parking lot is located 300 meters after the Fukujoji temple and its parking lot (see also the picture below).
• B. From Saijo station by car 　
  • (1) Drive south on the Boulevard from Saijo station for about 1 km.
  • (2) Turn left at the "Saijo Police Station" intersection onto National Route 486 heading east and continue for about 3 km.
  • (3) Keep straight for about 1 km after you reach a Y-shaped intersection ("Saijo Bypass Higashi") where it merges with National Route 2.

• C. From Higashi-Hiroshima Station by car
  • (1) Turn left at the "Higashi-Hiroshima Station Mae" intersection where 7-11 is.
  • (2) Continue for about 300 meters to reach the "Higashi-Hiroshima Station (East)" intersection. Follow the sign for the Higashi-Hiroshima Observatory, turning right.
  • (3) Keep straight for about 100 meters, then turn left and continue for about 700 meters.
  • (4) Follow the sign saying "Turn right for the Higashi-Hiroshima Observatory" at the intersection.

• D. By taxi
  • Drivers should be able to find a way to "the astronomical observatory located near Fukujoji (福成寺) temple in (Shimominaga)", or you can show them the following in Japanese "下三永の福成寺の奥のほうにある東広島天文台まで". It takes about 6-7 minutes from Higashi-Hiroshima station (4.4km away).
